Senior Accountant
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to oversee key areas of accounting, specifically project accounting and fixed assets. This role manages the financial aspects of large-scale projects, with a focus on utilizing the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for cost allocation and reporting. You will be responsible for managing the project accounting subledger, ensuring that all project-related financial transactions are accurately recorded, monitored, and reconciled. This role involves close collaboration with project managers to provide financial insights, ensure compliance, and maintain accurate financial records throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate is organized and comfortable working in a dynamic, cross-functional environment.
What You'll Do:
Partner with project managers to develop and maintain WBS elements for new and ongoing projects, ensuring accurate project setup and ongoing financial monitoring.
Leverage WBS to allocate and track project costs across different work packages, ensuring that financial data is properly categorized and reported.
Maintain and manage the project accounting subledger. Reconcile the project accounting subledger with the general ledger to ensure accuracy and consistency across all financial reporting.
Review and monitor subledger entries, identifying and resolving any discrepancies or issues in a timely manner.
Perform project-related month-end close tasks, including preparing journal entries and accruals, in compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
Ensure thorough documentation and tracking of all project costs, such as labor, materials, subcontractors, and overheads, within the subledger.
Prepare accurate reconciliations, schedules, and audit support documentation, for both internal and external stakeholders.
Support internal and external audits by providing timely documentation and clear explanations related to project financials and subledger activity.
Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the enhancement of internal controls within project accounting.
Optimize the use of the project accounting subledger and WBS for strengthen project financial management and reporting.
Provide guidance and offer mentorship on project accounting practices, particularly in the areas of WBS and subledger management.
Assist with training and development efforts to ensure the accounting team is aligned with current best practices in project accounting.
What We're Looking For:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience; project accounting experience preferred.
Experience in construction, manufacturing, clean tech, or capital project environments preferred.
Familiarity with WBS methodologies preferred.
Proficiency with ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics preferred), experience with ERP implementation is a plus.
Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical/problem-solving abilities; capable of managing and interpreting large financial datasets.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across financial and non-financial teams.
Proactive mindset with continuous improvement focus.
Demonstrates sound judgment and a positive, professional attitude.
Ability to perform under pressure and manage tight deadlines.
Strong execution skills, with a focus on follow-through and thorough documentation.
